This will mark the third attempt at a television series based on the world of Cruel Intentions (1999)
Tale
After being bullied at their elite college, half-siblings Caroline and Lucien attempt to maintain their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. The direct-to-video sequel Cruel Intentions 2 (2000), starring Amy Adams as Kathryn Merteuil, was originally a scripted TV series before being re-edited into a feature film.
It follows Cruel Intentions (1999)
Gellar would later reprise her role as Kathryn in 2016 for the NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series. With the exception of Sara Silva, who played CeCe, the cast was all terribly cast.
I’m not saying they weren’t decent actors
To say the acting was subpar is an understatement. But the main characters were definitely not suited to these roles.
It’s not a completely different story
The story was decent, and while it goes without saying that these aren’t the same characters as in the original film, they are somewhat based on them. They did copy certain scenes from the original, like Caroline kissing Annie.
It would have helped if the show hadn’t used the title Cruel Intentions, but regardless, these actors and actresses missed the mark
Lucian was supposed to be a sexy character like Sebastian, but I don’t know how Zak Burgess was thought to be the right actor and look for the role. Sara Catherine Hook, who played Caroline, did a decent job playing the bitch, but like Zak and the character Lucien, they weren’t exactly ‘sexy and seductive’.
