Tale
Four tumultuous decades during the Troubles in Northern Ireland
The real Dolours Price was married to Irish actor Stephen Rea for two decades (1983-2003). During that time, Rea appeared in the film for which she is probably best known in the US: the 1992 romantic thriller The Crying Game.
The series clearly seeks to balance the period
In the film, Rea plays Fergus, a highly unruly and ambivalent member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) – the same organisation that Price was involved with for many years. Coming from the north, it is very surreal to see such a high-quality TV series from this period.
Overall, it’s an occasionally exciting but also thought-provoking watch
Of course, towards the end, the focus is on the missing, particularly Jean McConville and several former IRA volunteers, but the film does a great job of showing the motivations and circumstances of the IRA collaboration. Overall, the characters, especially Dolours Price and Brendan Hughes, are brilliantly developed and acted, and the quirky humor is very welcome and on point.
I really think it was worth spending an entire day watching!
